little girl

#thislittlegirl was thinking a lot.

Trying to understand what it was all about in this world she had entered. Full of questions, too timid to ask them out loud, keeping them in her head.

Being born a black girl in the Netherlands, with hardly any black people around, only her own family is challenging.

She grew up understanding that she had to work hard to be accepted. Learned early that she was different, not understanding everything, still not giving voice to her questions, making her own story.

As a little observer dreaming of understanding the world to make it a better place. Always doing her best at school, because that seems the only way, trying to be better! Always having the feeling that she was not ‘good enough!’ Little by little, the community changed, and more and more foreigners entered the country.

Not everybody was thrilled but they were tolerated. Tolerated, is the word that was used then, more than 40 years ago.  And when you are tolerated you must have the guts to Be YOU and the guts she had!

Her unconscious motto: You may be different, but not less, so learn ‘the rules of the game’, and stay focused on your goals. So she made her career and started empowering and inspiring others to know ‘the rules to survive’.

Find and follow your own path, and stay close to who you are. It’s not that living that life was a constant struggle. You know the saying: “The last thing a fish discovers, is the water it swims in” (Chinese proverb) That courage gradually grew. The biggest challenge is always to feel safe because the core of growth is feeling safe.

Over the years, she gradually learned to take her place and overcome obstacles: Stand up for yourself, make sure no one walks over you. She learned to help others to survive and now in 2021 as an HR Potential Development Advisor in Suriname, she is empowering and inspiring others to take their place and to feel safe being themselves by retrieving their Inner Power. The then little girl knows now that it is her Inner Power that unconsciously brought her to where she is today.

So now as a partner of EhrmVision NL with the TMA Method support, she helps people to find, retain and develop their talents. She initiated in 2012 “BeYOU! The movement”  and currently started the “SISTER POWER CIRCLE’ to create a safe environment for women to empower and inspire each other while going through their journey of retrieving their Inner Power, finding their purpose, and realizing their dreams, as also in Suriname it is not always easy to be your authentic Self.

To little me and other little ones: Never let anyone decide who you are, trust your Inner Power, and follow your path. Know you are more than good enough and you have all talents you need to reach your own personal goals.
